It’s fair season and the intoxicating smell of fair food is wafting through the air from downtown Columbia. The SC State Fair has some of the best food if one is not looking for healthy choices. In all of its sugary, salty, unhealthy goodness, there is a  variety of foods at the fair. From pasta and pizza to doughnut burgers and funnel cakes, the fair has some of the best food. Here are some of the fan favorite fair foods:

#10: Corn Dogs

When people think about fair foods, corn dogs are the first thing that come to mind.  They are truly iconic and will always be loved by the people. There is a double corn dog option this year.

#9: Fried Oreos

Fried Oreos are a hit! One way to win anyone’s heart (and taste buds) is through fried food. Mix in sweet, gooey cookies and that’s a best seller.

#8: Kettle Corn

There is nothing better than warm kettle corn! Kettle corn is so popular it is even sold in regular grocery stores. People can’t get enough of it.

Back to the idea of fried food winning people over, funnel cake is literally just fried batter. What could be better?!

#6: Mac n Cheese Burger

The mac n cheese burger  is a fan favorite! At the South Carolina State Fair, the mac n cheese burger stand is placed right near the front gate so people can grab them first thing when they come in and last thing when they go out.

Caramel apples are another classic that everyone has to purchase when going to the fair. It is an extremely delectable treat that tastes even better after getting off one’s favorite ride.

#3: Boiled Peanuts

Boiled peanuts are good year round, but something about the fair makes them even better. The juicy and salty snack goes great with an ice cold Coke. This year boiled peanuts are truly farm to table because they were grown by Rawls Farms and prepared by the Lexington Blowfish.

#2: Doughnut Burger

The doughnut burger is diabetes in a meal. The sweet and salty combination is brilliant and makes for a good, but unhealthy, meal and dessert.

As simple as it is, Fiske Fries take #1. The fresh cooked fries are excellently made and so tasty. Don’t be afraid to try the different seasonings and condiments they offer such as ranch seasoning, vinegar, ketchup, and more.
