The future of housing construction could be 3D.

Not only has the first 3D printed house been created, but the first 3D printed house is now being sold. This event is making history and is not only an incredible event in terms of the present, but also in terms of the future. Due to how different it is to create a 3D printed house, housing construction itself could be reshaped by the creation of this sellable house.


 A 3D built house is currently on the market through Zillow with an asking price of $299,000. This house was made by the company SQ4D, and they are selling the house at much cheaper prices than normal houses tend to go for. Houses that are made in this method are not only produced cheaper, at 50% of the price for normal housing, but also much faster, even up to 10 times faster than normal houses are. 


As for the results of this method, the house for sale is completely made out of concrete and has enough rooms for a small family. The current size is three bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a garage. This is a perfect size for a house, which means smaller is possible, and bigger could be possible as well. 


Housing also has strict guidelines when it comes to construction. This is due to a need for safety when it comes to housing, to avoid collapses and injury. These same guidelines differ from place to place, including in different cities and states throughout the U.S. However, not only was the 3D printed house recognized as safe by housing guidelines, but it was also recognized as safe in one of the strictest cities when it comes to housing guidelines, Riverhead, New York.


All of this has great meaning for the future of housing. If 3D printed housing becomes a more popular method, housing prices could cut in half. More people would be able to find an affordable home and get off of the streets. This would also make construction more customizable and time efficient, as this would easily have a new house be created in no time at all. Of course, while there are positives, there are some notable negatives as well. These negatives especially come from future construction jobs.


If this method of housing construction increases, there will be much less of a need for current construction workers. This will cause those construction workers to lose their jobs. This type of unemployment is called technological unemployment, as man will be replaced by machines, and lead to a problem for workers in that field for some time to come. 


Overall, while one major negative could come of this method, many positive methods could come of it as well. Potential future homeowners should keep their eyes open, because one won’t know that if by the time they are ready to purchase a house, that house might be 3D printed just for them.
