Baseball Plays in NaturChem Invitational

Varsity Baseball played in the NaturChem Invitational from Friday, March 6 through Sunday, March 8.

The first game was played against Dorman at River Bluff High School on Friday. The Bengals defeated the Cavaliers with a final score of 6-2. Blythewood was down at the top of the 6th inning 2-1 until Junior Ty Dooley got a big hit scoring two runs for the Bengals. Dooley went 2-for-4 leading the Bengals in hits. Landon Lucas pitched five innings. He allowed two runs on two hits while striking out seven and walking one.

Game two was played against Wren at River Bluff on Saturday. Blythewood won with a final score of 3-1. Wren hit a home run in the second inning allowing them to be up 1-0. The score was still 1-0 in the last inning until Senior Jansen Stokes hit a walk-off home run, creating a Bengal victory. Kevin Steelman pitched a majority of the game for Blythewood. He went four innings, allowing one run on two hits and striking out three.

The final game was played against Camden at Lexington High School on Sunday. If the Bengals won this game they would have advanced to the championship, but unfortunately, the game ended in a tie. Ty Dooley and Muluken Hass led THe Bengals in hits, with each having two. Blythewood was up 7-3 in the 5th inning until Camden rallied and tied the game in the bottom of the 5th. The final score was 7-7.

The NaturChem Invitational has both an All-Academic Team and an All-Tournament Team for players from all teams. For Blythewood, Junior Ryan Hunter was selected for the All-Academic Team and Junior Ty Dooley was selected for the All-Tournament Team.

Lexington won the tournament by defeating River Bluff in the championship with a final score of 6-5.

The Bengals will start their regular-season games with their Home Opener on Wednesday, March 11 at 6:30 against West Florence.
