Cookies are the perfect holiday snack because they’re delicious and fun to make! Children making cookies for Santa on Christmas Eve is a common and fun tradition during the holidays. Here is how to make the tastiest cookies to get you into the Christmas spirit.

To start baking, you’ll need the following ingredients: sugar cookie dough, flour, powdered sugar, vanilla, icing, and optional items such as food coloring and sprinkles. You’ll also need cookie cutters, a rolling pin, a spatula, cookie sheets, and oven mitts.

A busy holiday schedule can get in the way of making the dough from scratch, so don’t be afraid to use premade dough. Start by removing the dough from the package and mix three tablespoons of flour into a mixing bowl. Stir well until the flour is evenly distributed using a wooden spoon or tool of your choice.

Next, roll out your cookie dough. Start by sprinkling flour onto the surface and then slightly flatten your dough with the palms of your hand. Add a small amount of flour if the dough starts to get warm and sticky. Take the rolling pin and start rolling the dough until it is about half an inch thick.

Grab your most festive cookie cutters. If you don’t have any cutters, that’s okay too. Making shapes such as stars or Christmas trees can be done with a butter knife. Press the cutter into the dough and lightly wiggle to make sure it is cut all the way through. Then, lift the dough around and take a spatula to place them on a cookie sheet. Repeat this until you have used up all the dough.

If your cookies are sticky and not holding their shape, place the entire cookie sheet of cut cookies into the fridge or freezer for a bit, maybe 5 minutes, before baking. Then, bake your cookies for 9-12 minutes in an oven preheated to 350°F.

Once the cookies are finished baking, allow them to cool on a wire rack.

Here comes the fun part: Decorating! There’s not much you can’t do when it comes to sugar cookies as the options are endless! Mix icing and a couple drops of food coloring into a small mixing bowl and mix thoroughly. Start adding your icing and sprinkles. After decorating, put them into the fridge for 3-4 minutes, and enjoy!

Christmas cookies can be a great way to start off the season. Enjoy these yummy treats and happy holidays!
