Students often get tied up with events such as family gatherings, church, sports and extracurricular activities. However, juggling time between school work and hobbies can be tough. Here are five easy tips to help manage your time.

Make a list
Making a list is a key part of having your tasks organized. Ranking these goals will help you be more productive in the long run. In fact, according to, “70% of business and professional people use a “to-do” list regularly to help with their time management skills.” The to-do list will help focus your attention and prioritize your important tasks.

Take care of important tasks first
“Put first things first,” says Steven Covey’s The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. Completing the most important tasks first is a great use of time. Once these responsibilities are taken care of, the remaining time can be focused on minor things.

Don’t multitask
Often people try to do multiple things at one time to be more productive and to get things done faster. However, multitasking will only make you feel more overwhelmed and incomplete. It’s better to focus on one thing at a time to make sure it’s getting done effectively.

Turn off distractions
Distractions such as cell phones,TVs, background noises, and unanswered emails are common distractions that keep us from completing our work. Shutting your phone off and turning off the TV will help avoid distractions and boost productivity.

Take breaks after being productive
It is so important to make sure you’re giving your brain a break, especially after doing a significant amount of work. Eat a snack and take a short break to gather energy to conquer your next task.
